FAQs

the Basics

  • 100% human-grade ingredients. Our recipes are about 98% whole foods, 1% fish oil and 1% supplement.

We give you the source for every ingredient on our sourcing page.

  • Here are the details of how we cook the dog food:

First, we wash the vegetables and peel when necessary. We grind the meat. Next, we steam each ingredient separately, because different ingredients need to be cooked for different lengths of time— if you cook everything together, some things (like vegetables) will spend a lot more time cooking than necessary. Our steamer ovens shut off once the food reaches the desired temperature (around 160f). We then cool the food, and mix all of the individual ingredients together. At this point we add a vitamin/mineral supplement, so it’s never exposed to cooking heat. Finally, we package the food into its bamboo paper container, add the fish oil on top and flash-freeze the container. Last step— we add a lid with an expiration date.

  • ADULT DOGS:

One 29oz container will last a 70lb adult dog about one day. For a 35lb dog, it will last about 2 days.

One 13oz container will last a 30lb adult dog about 1 day, a 15lb dog about 2 days, and a 10lb dog about 3 days.

PREGNANT, NURSING OR PUPPY DOGS: Double the above amounts based on the dog’s adult weight. We recommend checking with your veterinarian to make sure your feeding plan properly supports your growing/pregnant/nursing dog.

Every dog’s metabolism and activity level is different, and they get different amounts of treats and snacks. Use the instructions above as a starting point. Monitor your dog’s weight, and adjust accordingly.

  • After you defrost it, the food is good for 5 days in the fridge (4 days for the fish recipe). We don’t use any preservatives.

In the freezer, it’s good for 2 years from the date of manufacture. This expiration date is on every container.

  • Yes! Replacing as little as 25% of your dog’s dry food with a fresh option is enough to give dogs noticeable health benefits.

  • We have a whole page dedicated to this question. Check it out here.

  • No, not all. We also make some more affordable, but still 100% human-grade and high-quality conventional recipes. Check out the recipes page for more.

  • Check out the products page here for the guaranteed analysis on each of our recipes, which will include the fat content.

QS about our company

  • We cook all of our food ourselves, in a restaurant space in San Diego.

  • A few years ago, we adopted a beautiful dog named Lluvia (pronounced “yoo-vee-ahh”). She had a terrible reaction to every kibble we tried– bad shedding, red rashes and constant digestive issues. We started cooking for her, and it totally turned her health around. When we saw what fresh food did for her, we started cooking for other people’s dogs. That slowly turned into a company.

  • We sell our food only to independent pet retail stores. Unfortunately, we’re not set up to sell directly to dog owners. Visit the Store locator page to find your nearest retailer.

  • We’re a pair of brothers with a couple of dogs. There are more details on our About Us page.

  • We have a restaurant kitchen in San Diego (California). But the best place for you to find our products is in your local independent pet store. Visit the Find a Store page to find your nearest retailer.
